From Twitter to Fitter: Tweeting Yourself Fit
The magic of social media is that is a virtual bridge that can
connect anyone from anywhere, Facebook and Twitter being among the top
two. Even fitness has its place within the world of social media, and
more people are achieving their fitness goals more easily via online
support than in person, studies show.
Though Facebook and Twitter run a tight race with live feeds of status
updates, this article will focus mainly on how to use Twitter’s
140-character “tweets” to achieve your fitness goals.
Step 1: Assuming you already have a Twitter account (if not, sign up.
It’s fast and free): Do a relevant hashtagged keyword search. For
example, type in #fitness, #fitnesscontest, #weightloss, or #fitnesschallenge.
Step 2: Follow people who have a substantial number of followers and
informative tweets.
Tip: Make sure you have tweets on deck, a picture and a good bio to
increase the chances of people following you back.
Step 3: Look for contests and challenges.
Step 4: Observe the level of activity of those you follow. Take notes
(mental and physical) and put them to practice.
Step 5: Look for people in your area whom you can meet up with for
offline support.
Caution: It’s safest to meet up with a group rather than a single
person. If you’re not comfortable with meeting up with anyone, don’t
worry about it. Skip this step.
Step 6: For maximum support and to stay motivated, tweet your daily
goals and even upload before and after pictures. Not only will you
better notice your progress, but your followers will too and are likely
to point out the good points you may miss. Tweet your diet goals,
workout goals, menu and even your mess-ups (you may not want to tweet
that you devoured a whole cheesecake pie in less than twenty-four
hours).
Step 7: Have fun with it. It’s almost impossible not to have fun doing
something positive in sync with others who have the same agenda.
