Extensive Regional Recycling Guide made available to area residents

The Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality have produced a 24 page bilingual Recycling Guide. It covers recycling information for residents of a thirteen county area such as drop-off locations and the types of items that can be recycled. The guide will be available at Kroger stores throughout the Houston-Galveston region.

Among the many items listed in the guide for recycling are aerosol cans, batteries, carpeting, compact fluorescent light bulbs, DVDs/CVDs, eyeglasses, glass bottles, IPODS, sneakers, tires, among others. Each have a description as to the method and place of disposal. It also offers facts to dispute some of the common myths about recycling the various materials.

Each county has a page in the guide with the address and phone number of available recycling depositories and the type of materials. There are over 80 drop off sites accepting recyclable items in the area, some offering "Drive UP and Drop Off" services. Sites may require proof of residency, so it is best to call ahead to find out what to bring.

The Recycle Guide can also be found online at www.RecycleInfo.org.
