Heights Chamber Schedules First Preliminary June 18 for “Idol of the
Heights Contest”
The first preliminary “Idol of the Heights”
singing contest will be held on June 18 at The Social, located at 3730
Washington Avenue. This is the first of three preliminaries followed by
a semi-final which will pare down the final contestants to ten, and
those ten will compete in the finals which will be a part of The Greater
Heights Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo scheduled to take
place on July 27 at the SPJST Lodge located at West 15th and Beale
Street.
The “Idol of the Heights’ contest is being staged
for the first time and subsequent preliminaries will be held at Bubba’s
and the Cadillac Bar. The competition is open to anyone 18 years or
older and the entry fee for contestants in $10. Celebrity judges will be
on hand at each preliminary round and will select ten contestants to
move forward to the semi-final round. Contestants not chosen in a
preliminary round will be allowed to compete again prior to the finals.
In addition to the “Idol of the Heights” contest,
the Business Expo will present the “Heights of Dining,” that
is sure to please the palate of guests. The “Heights of Dining” will
offer tasty samples of foods prepared by local restaurants. Business
displays, demonstrations, a health fair and door prizes will also be on
the agenda for the Business Expo. Display tables are $150 for members
and $200 for non-members. Admission to the July 27 Business Expo is $5
in advance and $7.50 at the door. Admission entitles guests to two
beverages. The event is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and tickets may

The Business Expo will offer product and service
demonstrations conducted by companies sharing health and wellness tips
and guidelines. Rounding out the day’s activities will be the finals
of the “Idol of the Heights” contest with the winners taking home
$300, $200 and $100 respectively for first, second and third place.
