Spanish language legal handbooks on family, elder, consumer law now
available
The Spanish-language versions of the Houston Bar
Association’s free legal handbook series have been updated and the
handbooks are once again available at no charge to individuals and
organizations.
The handbooks average 44 pages and cover basic legal
issues. The Family Law Handbook includes information on family courts,
marriage and divorce, division of property, alimony, custody,
grandparent rights, paternity, adoption, modifications, family violence
and parental liability. The Elder Law Handbook covers topics including
Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, wills and probate, guardianship,
burial provisions, taxes, homesteads and consumer protection. The
Consumer Law Handbook addresses contracts, warranties, the DTPA,
purchasing an automobile, repossession, credit card/debit card
liability, credit reports, telemarketing fraud, payday loans, insurance
and landlord/tenant relationships. Each handbook includes a section with
additional resource and referral numbers.
Individuals may pick up free copies of the handbooks
at the Houston Bar Association office, 1001 Fannin Street, Houston, TX
77002, or may call the HBA at 713-759-1133 for instructions on how to
get handbooks mailed. Organizations that would like to receive multiple

The Family Law, Elder Law and Consumer Law handbooks
also are available for download in Spanish, English and Chinese on the
HBA website, www.hba.org.
