Discovery Green Flea Brings Unique Shopping Experience to Downtown
New market offers an array of vintage, recycled and
collectible items
Discovery Green Flea, a one-of-a-kind destination market, will debut on
Saturday, September 17 in Houston’s popular downtown park. Held on the
third Saturday of each month this fall from noon – 6 p.m., the market
will feature numerous merchants and their recycled, renewed and
refreshed merchandise. Families and treasure-hunting locals can also
enjoy light bites and local music while strolling through the Grace
Event Lawn for unique items.
“We’re thrilled to bring this new, unique market to downtown Houston,”
said Susanne Theis, Discovery Green programming director. “It will be
full of exceptional merchants and fascinating items, as well as, a bit
of entertainment and activities for all park visitors to enjoy.”
At Discovery Green Flea, shoppers will find that everything old is new
again. Dozens of on-site merchants will set up their artful kitsch,
vintage items, mid-century modern furniture, recycled and repurposed
items as well as collectibles in the shady southeast end of the park
alongside Lamar Street and Avenidas de las Americas.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to be involved with a market
tied to Discovery Green,” said Thomas Escalante, owner of Sig’s Lagoon
and featured merchant at the Discovery Green Flea. “I look forward to
offering consumers a collection of pre-loved vinyl.”
The new addition to the popular park will offer something for every
range of shopper from the bargain hunter to the thoughtful, global
shopper. With the planning expertise of Project for Public Spaces and
Brooklyn Flea, Discovery Green Flea will be the place to see and be seen
this fall.
“Discovery Green is a very attractive location for a destination
market,” said Kelly Verel, Senior Associate at Project for Public
Spaces. “With the park’s broad programming mission, the new market will
align perfectly with the Discovery Green’s diverse audience.”
Shoppers can peruse the unique collectibles on September 17, October 15,
November 19 and December 17. For more information on Discovery Green
