Growth prompts new HCC college alignments along West Houston Energy Corridor
Houston, Texas [August 19, 2011] – With the growth in enrollment over
the last few years in the west corridor of Houston, HCC has made a
strategic decision to divide the responsibilities of the colleges in
that region. Southwest College's Alief Hayes and Bissonnet campuses will
move to Northwest College headed by Dr. Zachary Hodges. Dr. Fena Garza,
Southwest College president, will continue to head the Gulfton,
Stafford, Missouri City and West Loop campuses.
This strategic reassignment of the campuses will distribute the
responsibilities and duties within the two districts more evenly
creating greater efficiency of operations and services.
Garza was named president of HCC Southwest in 2008, having served as
president of HCC Southeast for the previous four years. She has more
than 30 years of community college experience, including 22 years at an
administrative level. As a community advocate and educator, Garza’s
leadership is the driving force that makes Southwest College an
essential partner with area communities and businesses.
Hodges, president of HCC Northwest since 1994, has 38 years of service
in the field of higher education. In his 16 years as president, his
commitment to partner with diverse stakeholders has leveraged the
college as a catalyst for economic and community development in West
Houston.
The move will take effect September 1, 2011. Presidents Garza and Hodges
are working tirelessly to ensure faculty and staff have the information
and resources needed to complete the transition in a positive way. The
two colleges, Southwest and Northwest, will work collaboratively to make
this transition seamless and successful.
