Northwest PIP Hosts DA’s Office
Shannon Davis of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was one
of the featured presenters at the Houston Police Department’s Northwest
Positive Interaction Program (PIP) meeting Tuesday.
Assistant District Attorney Davis spoke to the crowd of 40 people at the
First Baptist Church Faith Center on Long Point about the release of
“Computer Cop” Internet monitoring software by the Harris County
District Attorney’s Office.
“Computer Cop” is Internet monitoring software designed to protect young
people from cyber predators. It arms parents with a tool to monitor
potentially dangerous Internet activity. Parents can use the software to
monitor images, emails, instant messages and chats. It also has a
function where parents can search for specific key words they may be
concerned about. The software is easy to install and it’s free from the
district attorney’s office.
“These projects enlist cyber technology, the community and law
enforcement in a unified strategy to guard against child predators and
to capture violent criminals, pedophiles and devious con artists,” said
District Attorney Pat Lykos. “Whether you are online or on-the-loose we
will get you.”
HPD’s PIP program was founded in 1982. Its purpose is to educate the
citizens of Houston on how their police department functions and to
encourage them to relay their neighborhood needs to HPD. PIP holds
monthly meetings featuring speakers from different police divisions or
law enforcement agencies.
